Storyline:

Set in a village in Rajasthan, the film revolves around 15-year-old Prerna (played by Rachel Sanchita Gupta), who is left in complete awe of the new sport after it’s introduced to her by Jessica (played by Amrit Maghera). Skateboarding, a burgeoning sport in India, acts as a catalyst for change in Prerna’s life, making her believe how small steps can lead to big and transformational life lessons. The film also underlines several layers of caste, class, and gender in an orthodox society.

Although Skater Girl is fictional, certain aspects of the film resonate with the reality of skateboarders in Janwar in Madhya Pradesh. The story went viral in 2015 when a German activist and author, Ulrike Reinhard, travelled to Jamwar and discovered India’s first skateboard community, helping youth freefalling in love with skateboards.

Review: From its synopsis, ‘Shaadisthan’ sounds like an interesting social commentary on our intrinsic societal problems. Social commentary is alright, but interesting? Nah, not so much. The story begins with an unimaginably dull ‘live’ performance of a band that prides itself in its musical prowess. Cut to, we see a young girl Arshi (Medha Shankar) getting an earful from her father for ‘running away’ from home due to which they miss their flight to Rajasthan.

Storyline:

The storyline follows Dhanush as Suruli, a gangster from Madurai, who is initially recruited by, and then crosses paths with Peter (James Cosmo), a politically-affluent honcho in London. But it’s not guns and gore throughout; the film also explores themes of xenophobia, cultural shifts, and also what the meaning of ‘home’ is to different people.

Eyebrows were raised when Jagame Thandhiram was acquired by Netflix earlier this year, in what is speculated to be a record deal for a Tamil film’s direct digital release. Director Karthik Subbaraj and actor Dhanush have been outspoken proponents of supporting theatres, and the film was labelled as one of Kollywood’s sure-shot attempts at reviving the pandemic-ravaged industry.

However, the second COVID-19 wave well and truly put paid to any chance of Jagame…. having a simultaneous theatrical and Netflix launch, and now, fans eagerly wait to watch the action-thriller from the safety of their homes.

Storyline:

STORY: It is a fictional drama inspired by the real-life terrorists attack on Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, where pilgrims were held hostage. As the terrorists start killing the captives, NSG commando Hanut Singh (Akshaye Khanna) arrives on the scene to deal with the massacre.

REVIEW: Around 19 years ago, Ahmedabad, along with the rest of the country, witnessed a terrorist attack that claimed the lives of around 30 people and left more than 80 injured. After the Gujarat riots in 2002, the temple attack on September 24, in the same year left people shocked.

In exchange for the release of one of their gang members, Bilal Naikoo (Mir Sarwar), a group of four terrorists attacked Krishna Dham Mandir (name changed from Akashardham Mandir). Terrorists assaulted the temple in this planned attack, which was monitored from Pakistan, killing many innocent people and holding some of them as hostages. Along with the Ahmedabad police, the National Security Guards (NSG) seized command of the situation.

Storyline:

On August 28, 2003, in the suburbs of Erie, Pennsylvania, a pizza delivery man named Brian Wells was accosted by several men who locked an explosive device around his neck. They then ordered him to rob a bank. After delivering the money, he would receive clues to help him disarm the bomb. It was one of the most ingenious bank robbery schemes in history, known as Collarbomb by the FBI. It did not go according to plan. Wells, picked up by police shortly after the robbery, never found the clues he needed in order to disarm the bomb around his neck. He died before the bomb squad could arrive, but after the national news was on the scene. Sadly, his death was on live TV. Investigating the crime after his grisly death, the FBI soon discovered that Wells was not, in fact, an innocent victim. He was merely the first co-conspirator to fall in a bizarre trail of death following the crime.
